Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
